Shark Safety Tips, Sharktivity App Upgrade, and Bay Side Shark Activity Heading into the Fall Season

As summer comes to a close and beaches grow quieter, it’s important to remember that shark safety remains a priority well into the fall. While lifeguards may no longer be on duty, this season continues to see high shark activity and frequent sightings. With warm weather expected this weekend, beachgoers should stay vigilant as they enjoy the water.

It’s also important to note that sharks are not limited to the Outer Cape beaches. They are regularly observed on the Bay side as well, and public safety precautions should be taken no matter where you swim.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s Sharktivity App continues to serve as a vital tool for both the public and researchers, helping ocean lovers stay informed and beach safe. The app combines community reports with researcher data to track shark activity across Cape Cod and South Shore towns. Exciting new features are now available through Sharktivity Pro, a subscription upgrade that offers exclusive field updates from AWSC’s science team, home screen widgets, and app customization options. All core public safety features remain free and accessible to everyone.

To further reduce risk, AWSC recommends the following year-round shark safety tips:

·       Avoid areas where seals are present

·       Avoid murky or low-visibility water

·       Swim, paddle, kayak, and surf in groups - don't go it alone

Shark safety is a shared responsibility. As the seasons shift, staying vigilant and informed remains the best way to improve safety.
